Cards are not running for the Internet’s mysterious high roller

Thursday, October 15th, 2009

For the third consecutive night the still unidentified online casinos high stakes playing using the handle ‘martonas’ took a beating on the Full Tilt virtual gambling tables, adding a relatively mild loss of $100 000 to two consecutive half-million-dollar debits earlier this week.

MarketPulse estimates that this enigmatic high roller casinos has seen his bankroll diminish by at least $2.5 million in recent exchanges, triggering speculation that he/she may soon follow previous patterns and disappear for a month or two.

The latest sessions saw a slew of Internet high rollers in action on the tables, including Phil Ivey, Tom Dwan, Patrik Antonius, David Benyamine, Gus Hansen, Tom Marchese, Phil Galfond and Ilari Sahamies.

Ivey recouped recent losses with a good session on six-max $500/$1 000 No-Limit Hold’em and Fixed-Limit HORSE, ending the day almost a million dollars in the black.

Gus Hansen continued to attract bad karma and was the biggest loser on the day, dropping $840 000 against pros like Ivey, Benyamine, Ashby and Sahamies on the Limit HORSE tables.

Second biggest loser of the day was Tom Marchese, who was down over a half million dollars, mainly to Patrik Antonius, who was himself given a hard time by Ivey and Dwan which ensured he finished the session down $50 000 despite his Marchese bonanza.

MarketPulse records the largest pot of the night at $448 000, which was taken by Antonius in the course of his demolition of Marchese.

Dwan now in the lead

Tom Dwan’s (dare we say it) intermittent and at times boring 50 000 hand, million dollar internet gambling challenge against Patrik Antonius groaned briefly into life again this week with casino bonuses, with the two slogging through another 400 hands, bringing the challenge to the 47 percent completion mark, according to independent stats gambling site MarketPulse.

This time Dwan came out ahead, taking $274 000 from Antonius to regain the overall lead.

The clash was the first Challenge action in almost a month from the two pros, who appear to have been fully committed to live tourneys and the Full Tilt high stakes cash game tables.

To breathe more life into this poker marathon, both players need to meet more often and play longer sessions; if they don’t, interest in the whole thing will continue to wane. In the dynamic world of Internet poker any Challenge that could take years to complete is unlikely to generate the right levels of interest and excitement.

MarketPulse’s latest stats on the Challenge show:

•Total amount wagered so far: $181 320 977

•Amount Dwan is ahead: $235 453

•Total hands played so far: 23 597

Stake of $200 started an avalanche of wins

The management at Royal Ace Casino reports that one of its casino gambling players, Hasmik L.A.S. of California, had a field day on the online slots on September 25th, turning a $200 original stake into $400 000 over a three day blitz.

Royal Ace customer internet gambling service manager, Paulie Mancini, said he reviewed the account on Sunday afternoon to find that Hasmik was doing well right from the beginning.

“She had worked her way up to an over $8 000 balance within the first four hours of play,” Mancini reveals. “Then everything really got exciting when she made her first big hit for $64 000 in our slot machine Paris Beauty at around 3am of the 26th.

Mancini goes on to layout the timeline of the biggest hits Hasmik made over the weekend. “Her balance was bouncing around quite a bit, and when she made her next hit for $15 000, again on Paris Beauty, her balance had fallen from $73 000 to less than $68 000. After the $15 000 hit though, she was back up to almost $100 000″.

“Without going over every win the player made over these three days of playing, we can layout all of the big wins for you,” said Mancini. “Between the time of Hasmik’s initial $100 deposit and the first few big slots wins we have already described, she then switched to playing the Triple Toucan slot machine and hit for another $45 000, $27 000, and then a $270 000 hit during the free spin feature of Triple Toucan on Sunday afternoon; at which point her balance was over the $400 000 mark.”

At this point Hasnik wisely decided to call it a day, leaving two hundred dollars in her account and calling for a $410 000 withdrawal

“This is one of the biggest slots wins we have seen to date, and all of us here are very excited for her,” said Mancini.
